A Confession of a Sort

He’s still buried up there but we don’t talk about it much. He’s supposed to be in Leith – that’s what everybody says, but he’s still up on the hill. I’m not the only one who believes that. But I’m not saying more to stir up more trouble. She goes up most days to tidy the place but the cross disappeared last winter. Nobody wants to put up a new one. That’s tempting the spirits. I never believed him. Nobody believed me. So I just keep my mouth shut. We’ve got a business to run here.
